3 Ways to Get Wisdom – Words to Live
By Pastor Lonnie G. McCowan
Words are doors or walls. Words birth; they kill. Every relationship has been destroyed through words. Every relationship has been birthed through words. Conversation is the master key to life. God runs the entire universe with his mouth. Every miracle comes out of a conversation, with God, yourself, or another, conversation is a force, it decides what lives what dies. Conversation gives birth to faith; faith cometh by hearing, but it also leaves by hearing. Moses sent ten spies out to look at the land that God promised them after they came out of Egypt, they saw giants in the land and when they got back, the ten spies spoke their doubts and the people’s faith died.
Proverbs 4:5 says Get wisdom, which means you’re not born with it, which means that it’s not genetic it doesn’t come through the blood line. You can be a brilliant father like King David, and have an idiot son who rebels like Absalom. You can have an idiot father like King Saul and have a son with wisdom like Jonathan who understood the hand of God was on David.
When the bible says get wisdom it means it is something you’ve got to pursue.
What is wisdom? Wisdom is… the ability to recognize difference. The difference in people, the difference in a moment, the difference in an environment, the difference in right and wrong, the difference in evil and righteousness, the difference between divine and demonic.
Wisdom is …the ability to anticipate a consequence. If you tell a child to jump off of a garage that child will because it cannot anticipate a consequence. That’s why people sin, they cannot anticipate a consequence. Your wisdom is measured by how far ahead you think: one hour, two hours, one day, one year, ten years. Wisdom is…the ability to have a divine reaction to a human problem. A God reaction to a human problem on the earth.
Why is wisdom so important? It determines your health, your wealth, the flow of favor. Wisdom decides your joy. Wisdom is the principle thing on the earth. It’s the most important thing on the earth. 3 Ways to Get Wisdom
- Learning from Your Mistakes-mistakes is the slowest way to get wisdom but still an option. Psalm 106:43 in the Message describes the Israelites in the Old Testament saying, “Over and over God rescued them, but they never learned.” When we make a mistake, we should learn all we can from it and move on.
- Learning from Other Peoples Mistakes-It is necessary for us to learn from others’ mistakes. Mentorship is your shortcut to success. We can avoid a lot of pain and setbacks by seeking advice (Proverbs 15:22) and learning from the mistakes of others.
- Learn from God-Proverbs 2:6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
James 1:5 5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
God’s Wisdom is Dangerous it’s not for the weak simply put; man will never have God’s wisdom except that God really lives his life for him. Thus, it’s not in degrees or seminaries or titles or education. Jesus lived God’s life so that he became the very wisdom of God, and Jesus came that we may have life, and abundantly at that. Through Jesus, God can live our lives, and we can live God’s life on earth. It’s that simple. Man’s wisdom have produce minds that create atom bombs, nuclear warheads, computer viruses, processed food that harm our health (but which are advertised as good stuffs), synthetic medicines that gradually destroy the body, militarization, dictatorships, jack up world inflation, and form fear based religions that keep people’s spiritual lives rotten, to name a few. Yet, it astounds me how people still pursue man’s wisdom like crazy. Because titles and degrees command respect and higher pays. God’s wisdom does not. It often leads to the cross.
