Adrian Peterson Believes Michael Vick Can Get the Vikings Back to the NFL Playoffs

Adrian Peterson and Michael Vick

By  Chris Greenberg

Adrian Peterson believes he knows what it will take to return the Minnesota Vikings to the playoffs: Michael Vick. The 2012 NFL MVP shared this theory on Twitter on Wednesday just hours after it was reported that the Philadelphia Eagles were not interested in bringing back the veteran quarterback.

The tweet appeared to be a response to a question posed by @NFLNetwork about the newly available Vick.

Citing unnamed team and league sources, Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reported earlier on Wednesday that the Eagles are not interested in bringing back Vick, a free agent, in 2014. Vick opened the Eagles’ 2013 season as the starter but was eventually supplanted by Nick Foles. Injured in a Week 5 win over the New York Giants, Vick would only appear in six games during the 2013 campaign, throwing for 1,216 yards and five touchdowns. He led the Eagles to NFC East title during a stellar 2010 season but has since struggled to stay on the field.

Even with Vick’s injury issues in recent seasons, Peterson seems to consider him a step above the players tasked with handing him the ball in recent years. Peterson played with a rotating cast of unreliable signal-callers in 2013 as Josh Freeman, Christian Ponder and Matt Cassel all started games. When Peterson did drag the Vikings into the 2012 postseason, the team was forced to start Joe Webb after an injury to Ponder.

“We are going to get some quarterbacks; obviously (Matt Cassel and Josh Freeman) are free agents and (Christian) Ponder is still on the roster,” Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said at the NFL Scouting Combine in February. “But we have to have a quarterback, so we are going to have to find some, and that is why we are out here looking so hard and why we’ll continue to look in free agency. We’ll find a guy.”

It would seem that Peterson thinks he already found that guy.
