Arrest Made in ‘Beats’ Headphones Murder

Homicide detectives have arrested a suspect in the deadly shooting of a man who was killed over a set of designer headphones after Black Friday.
Arkel Garcia, 19, of the 5400 block of Lebanon Avenue was arrested on Monday, Dec. 9 for the slaying of Christian Massey, 21, on Saturday, Nov. 30. Garcia has been charged with murder and related offenses.
On the day in question, at approximately 4:48 p.m., 19th District Officers responded to a radio call for a person with a gun at 58th Street and Lebanon Avenue. When officers arrived on location they found Massey, from the 1400 block of North Felton Street suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest. The incident occurred in the rear driveway of the 5800 block of Lebanon Avenue. Massey stated to the officers that an unknown male attempted to rob him and shot him while he was walking through the rear driveway. Officers transported Massey to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was later pronounced dead at 5:36 p.m.
Court records show that Garcia is no stranger to police in the district and that he recently violated probation on a 2012 drug arrest.
