Assemblymember Cheryl R. Brown (D-San Bernardino) alerted constituents to the fact that Covered California will begin to enroll millions of California’s uninsured individuals for healthcare benefits beginningOctober 1, 2013 through March 31, 2014. Covered California is a healthcare insurance marketplace that offers assistance securing affordable healthcare and provides financial assistance to make coverage more affordable for those who qualify.  Starting January 2014, most Americans will be required to have health insurance or pay a penalty.

“Starting next month, millions of uninsured Californians will have access to affordable, quality healthcare through Covered California,” said Assemblymember Brown. “Our state has worked very hard to implement the Affordable Care Act, and I’m looking forward to the 47th Assembly District taking advantage of this valuable opportunity because our District is in desperate need of affordable healthcare services.”

Reportedly, over 300,000 Californians are uninsured in San Bernardino County.

“The lack of access to healthcare services, especially in my District, is overwhelming. That’s why, this legislative session, I supported this groundbreaking healthcare reform.   I also supported a number of bills that would improve access to medical services and increase the number of physicians, surgeons, registered nurses and other health care professionals in medically underserved areas,” said Assemblymember Brown. “It’s very important to ask questions and be educated about our new healthcare reform. We need those without healthcare to sign up.”

Covered California is open to all California citizens who are uninsured. The cost of coverage ranges according to income and family size. There are three financial assistance programs (tax credits, cost sharing subsidiaries and Medi-Cal assistance) to help make sure everyone can afford healthcare. Covered California will help individuals and families determine their eligibility for these financial programs.
