Assemblymember Cheryl R. Brown to Host Disaster Preparedness Event
In partnership with Building Resilient Communities, Assemblymember Cheryl R. Brown (D-San Bernardino) will host a free disaster preparedness event to educate the public about the earthquake risk in California and the steps that can be taken to reduce the risk of death, injury and property loss.
“There are steps that we can take to be better prepared for an earthquake,” Assemblymember Brown said, “and that includes being informed and aware of potential threats. In California, the likelihood of a major earthquake is above 95 percent, according to recent reports. Every family should protect themselves by having a disaster preparedness plan in place. I strongly encourage my constituents to take advantage of this free program.”
The event will be held from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Friday, April 25 at Sunrise Church, which is located at 2759 Ayala Drive in Rialto. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m.
Guest speakers include two leading experts in disaster preparedness, Cheryl Nagy and Debra J. Williams. Nagy is the president of Southern California VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster) and she also serves as an emergency services officer for the San Bernardino County Fire Department. Williams is the president of Building Resilient Communities, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing education and training programs for community and faith based organizations in the areas of disaster preparedness and economic resilience.
