The legislative year officially closed at midnight Sunday evening, as the deadline for Governor Jerry Brown to sign or veto legislation passed. When all was said and done, Assembly Member Steven Bradford (D-Gardena) sent 14 bills to the Governor’s desk, with 11 coming away with a signature.

“This was a great year, not just in terms of numbers, but in terms of getting significant, important, meaningful legislation passed that will benefit my constituents and all Californians,” Bradford said.

Those bills covered a number of important areas, including public safety, expanding access to critical technologies for low-income Californians, utilities transparency and efficiency, and criminal justice reform.

“I thank my colleagues and the Governor for recognizing the importance of addressing these critical issues,” Bradford continued. “Whether we are expanding access to solar energy and broadband Internet for low-income families, protecting bicyclists on our streets, or addressing our 70% recidivism rate, this package of bills will move California forward, making us more equal, competitive, and safe for generations to come.”

“California is getting back on track,” Bradford continued. “After the success we had this year getting so many important pieces of legislation passed, I am excited to see what we can accomplish next year.”
