Bernard Parks 300x182 Councilman Calls for Federal Investigation of Trayvon Martin’s Death

City Councilman Bernard C. Parks

City Councilman Bernard C. Parks said he will introduce a resolution on Tuesdayasking the federal government to investigate the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.

Attorney General Eric Holder has criticized “stand your ground” laws and pledged a Justice Department investigation into the death of the Florida teen, who was shot and killed by George Zimmerman in February 2012.

On July 13, a jury found Zimmerman to be not guilty in the incident, setting off a series of protests in cities nationwide, including Los Angeles.

Parks will ask the City Council to officially endorse Holder’s investigation, which would make Los Angeles the first city to do so.

Civic leaders were expected to join Parks at a news conference on Tuesday morning to discuss the resolution.
