The eyes are the window to the soul, but they are also two of the most used organs within the body. One of our most important senses is the sense of sight, and during our active hours of the day, we put much strain on our eyes by focusing on bright computer screens, staying up late hours into the night texting or surfing the web and by exposing our eyes to UV rays from the sun. It is easy to take our eyes for granted and to ignore their health until problems arise, but you don’t have to wait until something is wrong to keep your eyes in the best shape possible. Here are a few tips on how to keep the eyes healthy.
1. Place a screen protector over your computer.
We live in a technological world now where we are constantly looking at a computer screen or the screens of our smart phones. 2. Get more sleep.
Everyone is in the hustle and bustle of the grind towards success, but neglecting sleep in the process can take a toll on the strength of your eyes. Make time to put more sleep on your schedule whether you dedicate a few minutes throughout the day to taking 15 minute cat naps, or give yourself a cut-off time for work to be completed at night to get more rest during quiet hours. When your eyes are rested, they feel less heavy and more able to focus on the objects around you without delay or cloudiness.
3. Wear sunglasses with UV protection.
UV rays are the most harmful to the eyes, so when out in direct sunlight during your travels or leisure time wear a pair of sunglasses that have 100% UV protection. Not only will you be protecting your eyes, but you will be making a fashion statement as well! Be careful of cheaper pairs of sunglasses because although they may advertise that they contain UV protection, the level of protection isn’t as high.
4. Use prescription glasses if needed.
One of the worst things anyone can do for their eyes is to continue to squint and force the eyes to see through vision restrictions. 5. Increase your vitamin C intake.
Vitamin C has been linked to improving eye sight and maintaining optical health. Incorporate more foods into your diet that are high in vitamin C such as kale, red peppers, strawberries, mango and kiwi. These foods contain higher levels of vitamin C than oranges, the typical default food used to increases vitamin C within the body.
