Four Full Conference Scholarships Available to the 805 Writers’ Conference
There are two age groups for the contest: two scholarships for ages 16 to 25 and two scholarships for writers over 25. Interested writers need to submit the first five pages of their current work of fiction, nonfiction, short story or memoir for consideration. Deadline for submissions is October 5, 2015. Winners will be notified by October 20.
The Pacific Institute for Professional Writing (PIPW) Advisory Board will make selection of the winners. PIPW is the conference producer. Entrants need to register at www.pipw.org, and upload their pages to be judged. There is no fee to enter. All pages must be double spaced with one-inch margins on all four sides with the writer’s name and title of the piece in the top header. All entries must be both written in Microsoft Word or Apple Pages and saved as .docx or .doc. No pdfs or other formats allowed.
To submit an entry for consideration, visit: http://www.PIPW.org and click on Scholarship Reg at the top.
“We want to reach out to those writers who can’t afford the conference but are talented and hungry for professional education, especially young writers just thinking of entering the field as a career,” says Kate Sexton Kaiser, Executive Director of PIPW. “Last year we gave away five scholarships and this year we are able to give away four. The VC Star, one of our media sponsors, is giving two of the scholarships courtesy of the paper.”
In its fifth year, the conference draws attendees from throughout California with writers flying in from Idaho and Texas last year. The conference features published authors, editors, and other publishing professionals discussing the top issues facing new writers.
