The Martin Luther King, Jr., Committee of Ventura County was awarded one of the Oxnard Chamber of Commerce’s top honors on June 28, at its 2013 annual Community and Business Awards Luncheon.

“We are truly honored to have received this award and we appreciate Dr. Michele Dean for nominating our organization. The work that we do as volunteers is a labor of love and not done for recognition. Having been recognized in this way adds a great deal of satisfaction, knowing that what we do is appreciated by the community and by a great organization like the Oxnard Chamber of Commerce,” said LaRita Montgomery, Chairperson, Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee of Ventura County.

Montgomery continued, “Our 27th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr., Birthday Observance was a success due to the ongoing involvement of community volunteers  willing to give of their time, their  energy and their creative ideas. It is truly a team effort and the team is dedicated to keeping the legacy of Dr. King alive. In September, we will begin preparations for the 28th Observance and we invite those who share our vision to join us in making the 28th even more successful.”
