State Lee 199x300 Congresswoman Lee Issues Statement on Raising the Minimum Wage

Congresswoman Barbara Lee

Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-CA) issued statement on raising the minimum wage:
“On the eve of the U.S. Senate’s vote on legislation to increase the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour,  I am proud of my home state, California, for leading the minimum wage movement by signing into law legislation last September that increases the state minimum wage from $8.00 per hour to $9.00, effective July 1, 2014.

Effective January 1, 2016, the minimum wage in California will be $10.00 per hour.

“In California, we understand that to re-build our economy and expand the middle class, we need to put more money into the pockets of workers.

“An increase of the federal minimum wage would bring our country one step closer to establishing a living wage, that would give hard-working Americans the dignity of a good standard of living to afford the basics while working one full time job.

“As a member of the Appropriations and Budget Committees and the Chair of the Democratic Whip’s Task Force on Poverty and Opportunity, I will continue to fight for a increase in the minimum wage that will improve the quality of life for low-wage earning families and will lift our entire economy.”
