Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-13) met individuals whose unemployment benefits are due to expire on December 28, 2013 during a tour of the Oakland Private Industrial Council’s (PIC) One-Stop Career Center.  This tour was held on Thursday, December 19, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Oakland Private Industry Council (PIC), located at 1212 Broadway, Oakland CA.

According to the California Employment Development Department, an estimated 213,793 people in California and 8,064 people in Alameda County will immediately lose their benefits due to the expiration of the emergency unemployment compensation program.

Congresswoman Lee has consistently advocated on behalf of the long-term unemployed, most recently co-authoring a letter to House speaker John Boehner urging him to address the looming expiration of unemployment benefits for millions of Americans.
