Falcons Star Could be Done for the Year

The Falcons’ nightmare start to the season may have gotten even worse a day after a loss to the Jets dropped the team to 1-4. Atlanta’s star receiver Julio Jones will likely miss the rest of the season with a foot injury, as first reported by Jay Glazer of Fox Sports.

Minutes after Glazer’s tweet, D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that the team said Jones will be out for the year.

The injury was described as “a legitimate concern” by an unnamed team source who spoke with Jason La Confora of CBS Sports.

Glazer also wrote that the Falcons are sending Jones to get a second opinion, but they are pessimistic.

Coach Mike Smith says Jones, the NFL leader with 41 catches, did not get encouraging results from a visit with doctors.

Smith added that Jones will see a foot specialist in Charlotte, N.C., for a second opinion. Jones ranks second with 580 yards receiving.

Jones has recorded 41 catches for 580 yards and scored two touchdowns so far this season. He made a spectacular one-handed catch late in the Falcon’s loss to the Jets on “Monday Night Football.”

The Falcons (1-4) lost four-time Pro Bowl receiver Roddy White to a hamstring injury during the game. A high ankle sprain has nagged White, who has only 14 catches for 129 yards receiving.

Running back Steven Jackson has missed the last three games, all losses, with a hamstring injury.
