FOOD Share to Host Arts in the Park at Ventura Harbor
The fifth annual “Arts in the Park” will be held on Aug. 17 – 18, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Ventura Harbor. The outdoor event that is hosted by Ventura County’s FOOD Share will feature fine arts and crafts, street chalk art and music throughout both days.
Los Angeles artist JD Shultz has been selected as this year’s Featured Artist. JD’s art captures the mind, soul and inner spirit through a body of work best described as “complexity at its most whimsical”. Boasting a unique and fun-natured style, Shultz’s work is gaining praise and attention from viewers and art critics alike. The subjects of his work range from dreamlike cityscapes, to thought provoking abstracts and fantasy surrealism. His innovative use of acrylics painted on the reverse side of Plexiglas produce images that explode off the surface.
Shultz’s group exhibitions have made him a star attraction. His collectors include celebrities such as Larry King, Ryan Seacrest, and Dr. Drew Pinsky.
While fine arts and crafts are displayed on the lawn, the sidewalks provide a canvas for approximately 25 street chalk artists. Creating chalk art since 1998, local artist Alice Crittenden has participated in festivals in numerous California cities, as well as Florida, Colorado, Texas, Germany and Mexico. She has been a participating chalk artist in Arts in the Park since 2011 when Executive Director Barbara Hinton decided to add chalk art to the festival. Crittenden says that Arts in the Park is in a fantastic location and that the view, live music and art create a wonderful atmosphere.
A limited number of chalk art squares are available for sponsorship by companies or individuals and will feature the sponsor’s name. All proceeds from sponsorships will benefit FOOD Share, Ventura County’s regional food bank that serves more than 74,500 individuals per month.
Admission to the event is free. Sponsorships can be purchased through FOOD Share. For questions or sponsorship information, please contact Jordan Brown at FOOD Share at (805) 983-7100 ext. 129.
