Links hold 13th Annual Youth Summit
Thousand Oaks, CA — The Channel Islands Chapter of The Links, Incorporated hosted their Annual Youth Summit on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at California Lutheran University located at 60 West Olsen Road. Students of all ages and parents were invited to join as they explored issues through a series of interactive group sessions and panel discussions.
The theme for this year was “It Really Does Take a Village: Closing the Achievement Gap”. Students attending the summit had the opportunity to sharpen their school and job skills as they attended workshops on topics including STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathmetics), health and nutrition, civic and community responsibility, closing the achievement gap, career planning, technology, as well as child advocacy and empowerment.
The Links, Incorporated is an international, not-for-profit corporation, established in 1946. The membership consists of 12,000 professional women of color in 276 chapters located in 41 states, the District of Columbia and the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. It is one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service organizations of extraordinary women who are committed to enriching, sustaining and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry.
