Flamenco dancers, mariachi bands and singers lit up the stage at the Old Mission Santa Barbara on Wednesday, July 31 for Fiesta Pequeña. The event was the official kickoff for Old Spanish Days.

This event featured traditional songs and dances: tunes of the Californios, Flamenco, Spanish classical and Mexican folklórico dances.

El Presidente Josiah Jenkins and Mayor Helene Schneider welcomed the thousands of people who came out for the festivities.

In addition to the many dance companies performing, Spirit of Fiesta Corrie Jimenez and Junior Spirit of Fiesta Kailani Cordero shared their passion for flamenco in front of their largest audience yet.

Santa Barbarans have long been proud of their city’s heritage from Spanish founders and from the Spanish, Mexican and North American pioneers who first settled here and built the city. The tradition of colorful music, dance, and song, together with a spirit of friendliness, hospitality and tolerance are part of this heritage which the Fiesta “Old Spanish Days In Santa Barbara” seeks to preserve and perpetuate.

Old Spanish Days ran through August 4.
