Oxnard Volunteers Help Rescue Mission Feed the Homeless
Thanksgiving eve brought out many homeless people in the community. Hundreds filed into the designated dinning area for a delicious Thanksgiving dinner and dessert. Noteworthy also were the volunteers that turned out to feed the hungry. Churches from around the county, proudly displaying their tee-shirts were on hand to help with the food distribution. Literally hundreds of volunteers stood in long lines for the opportunity to serve. Also presents were many public servants, notably military personnel from Point Mugu Naval Base, Port Hueneme Construction Battalion, Oxnard Fire and Rescue Department and Oxnard Police Department. They manned the serving lines helping to prepare plates of food, while others actually delivered plates to the grateful recipients. A wonderful band played great music which filled the air while the Oxnard Rescue Mission staff organized and managed the occasion. While volunteers feed the homeless, the Oxnard Camp of the Gideons International fed the spirit by distributing Bibles to everyone that would accept one.
