On Saturday, July 27, 2013, the Psi Xi Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., along with its non-profit affiliate, Gold Coast Charities, Inc., hosted its 16th Annual Memorial Golf Tournament and Scholarship Fundraiser. For the second consecutive year, it was held at Victoria Lakes River Ridge Golf Course in Oxnard. More than 50 players from all over Southern California participated in a scramble format tournament, and enjoyed a presentation and awards barbecue dinner banquet, in addition to a raffle and auction afterwards. The affair was a tremendous success and all had big time fun.

The Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament is an annual event where the proceeds fund scholarships to minority Ventura County high school seniors, who are pursuing undergraduate degrees at accredited colleges and universities throughout the country. This year, Psi Xi awarded scholarships to seven seniors. Since founded in 1978, Psi Xi has awarded more than $100,000 in scholarships. In addition to being a major fundraiser, the tournament also is a memorial tribute to members of our chapter who have transitioned to “Omega Chapter”. These men are Rev. James DeFoe, James Gilchrist, Nathaniel Mitchell, Julian Tarleton, Al Tillman, John Peele, Charles E. White and Burl Radney.

This year’s tournament committee chair was Al Duff, Sr., along with committee members: Psi Xi officers George Vaughner, Basileus; Charles K. White, Vice Basileus; Bruce Stewart, KRS; Marvin McKenzie, KF and Tournament Co-Chair; and chapter members Don Cobb, Ron Greenwood, Sterling Ivery and Crittenden K. Ward.

There would be no tournament without the participation of the players and the generosity of our Tee Sign Sponsors. Lacee Green of GetLacedNow Fitness and two of her associates served as official hostesses for the par three holes and also helped host the auction and raffle.  Charles Vivian was our statistician.
