On Saturday, June 15, 2013, Santa Paula Animal Rescue Center (SPARC), a Cesar Millan Foundation “Shelter Star” and the first and only No Kill shelter in Ventura County, celebrated its One Year Anniversary with a big block party on the SPARC and Moose Lodge properties in historic Santa Paula. Special guest stars in attendance included FOX Good Day LA’s TV personality Mar Yvette, Ms. California Christina Meredith, City of Santa Paula Councilmember Jim Tovias and Santa Paula Police Department K9 Unit.

FOX Good Day LA’s TV personality Mar Yvette was the media spokesperson for the festive family and pet-friendly event. A champion for animals, Mar recently featured SPARC on the Good Day LA morning show with supporter Cesar Millan and the Cesar Millan Foundation. Media, community members and the public enjoyed food, drinks, and fun as they grooved to live music played by local bands Standard Deviance and The Freeways. Classic solo composer and performer, Marc Irving Weber, provided the backdrop for the Santa Paula Chevrolet children’s play area and KHAY Radio did a live remote broadcast with giveaways. There was an animal petting zoo with goats, alpaca and silky chickens, bounce houses, raffles, prizes including Canine Caviar holistic dog food and a dunk tank where patrons could dunk SPARC Executive Director William LeFeuvre.

SPARC has positively impacted the animals of Santa Paula and the people who love them. With a 99.5 percent save rate, Santa Paula celebrates its status as Southern California’s first and only No Kill community.

SPARC provided a tour of the shelter and special adoption prices and was able to find loving homes for a dozen dogs and cats.
