Shola Lynch’s ‘Free Angela and All Political Prisoners’ Holds NY Premiere

Blackfilm.com attended the ‘Free Angela and All Political Prisoners‘ New York Premiere at The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in New York City.

Directed by Shola Lynch, the documentary chronicles the life of young college professor and political activist Angela Davis and How she became one of America’s most renowned revolutionaries and ended up on the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted list. Distributed by Codeblack Films, the film was released exclusively in select AMC theatres in Washington D.C., Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Oakland, Philadelphia and Atlanta on April 5, 2013.

In attendance at were Shola Lynch, Angela Davis, producer Sidra Smith, executive producers and Overbrook Entertainment’s Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, CodeBlack Entertainment’s Jeff Clanagan and Quincy Newell, Michaela Angela Davis, Ruby Dee, cinematographer Bradford Young, Bethann Hardison and Liya Kebede, Angela Davis’s sister Fania Davis Jordan, and many more.

While on stage, Angela Davis dedicated the film to Charlene Mitchell, who alongside Kendra Alexander and Franklin Alexander, helped organize the campaign to free her.
