St. Paul AME Church Santa Barbara holds Pastor & Wife’s Appreciation Service
On Sunday, August 11, 2013, the St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church of Santa Barbara held its Pastor & Wife’s Appreciation Service. This service, honoring Rev. Jeffery Clark and First Lady Le’Shune Clark, celebrated five years of faithful and dedicated service they have rendered to the church and the greater Santa Barbara community.
The keynote speaker for the afternoon was Rev. Robert L. Cox, Pastor, Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Oxnard. He was accompanied by his wife and First Lady of Bethel, Mrs. Denise Cox, his Associate Ministers Rev. Von Beatty and Rev. Dennis Holloway, church officers, ushers, mass choir, and many church members. Local clergy also was in attendance.
It was a grand and heartfelt celebration. The visitors were feted with a full course meal, good music by both the St. Paul and Bethel choirs, energized spoken word from Rev. Cox, and warm well wishes and testimonies from various church members. Xi Kappa Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., of which Le’Shune is a member, Psi Xi Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., of which Rev. Clark is a member, and Louis Clark, son of Rev. and Mrs. Clark, also paid tribute.
Several members of the St. Paul family participated in the program. Freddie Walker gave the opening prayer; Margaret Young read the scripture; Wendy Sims Moten gave the welcome; Bobby Taylor, substituting for his wife Amber, covered the “Occasion”; Louis Clark introduced the Keynote Speaker; Sam Vickers and Cleveland Whitefield handled the offering; and Willie Riley made a special presentation. Soror Linda Ryles spoke for Xi Kappa Omega Chapter and Bro. George Vaughner, Basileus, spoke for Psi Xi Chapter. Remarks were made individually by the Clark family: Le’Shune, Louis and Rev. Clark.
Rev. Clark is a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was baptized at King David Baptist Church in 1972. He came to California in 1985 and received his call into the ministry in 1996 while a member of Bethel AME in Oxnard. He served as an Associated Minister there until he was assigned to the Providence First AME Church in Lompoc. He was then assigned to Allen Chapel AME Church in San Bernardino and served there until he was assigned to St. Paul AME Santa Barbara on December 15, 2007. Le’Shune has served actively wherever her husband has been assigned. A native of Waynesboro, Georgia, she currently serves as president of the Women’s Missionary Society and as president of the Usher Board. The Clarks reside in Oxnard where Louis will be entering his freshman year at Santa Clara High School.
The Clarks are devoted to serving in God’s vineyard; they are devoted to each other and their family. Their level of devotion and genuine warmth towards each other and to those they come in contact with is clearly discernible. This made the celebration all the more worthy and enjoyable. To God be the glory for the great things He has done, and for sending the Clarks our way!
