TLC Reunion in the Works as T-Boz and Chilli Schedule Upcoming Show
The two remaining members of the famed girl group are set to perform at Hershey, Penn.’s Mixtape Festival in July, Pitchfork reports. The VH1-sponsored festival is an unsurprising choice for the women as the network is currently working on a biopic about TLC. Other acts booked for the Mixtape Festival include New Kids on the Block, One Republic, Train, Hanson, and Boyz II Men.
Performances by Watkins and Thomas have been sparse in the years since original TLC member Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes died in a 2002 car crash at the age of 30. The duo hit the stage in New York in 2003 for what was then hyped as “TLC’s Last Performance,” playing the group’s hits in front of video of the late Lopes.
Recent shows by Watkins and Thomas have included a 2011 “American Idol” appearance and a collaboration with Alicia Keys at the 2008 BET Awards.
TLC released its last studio album as a trio in 2002. There has been talk of an upcoming album to be released later this year, with an accompanying tour.
“We’re going to still sound like TLC, evolving to whatever level we need to be at this time,” Watkins said of the group’s next album. “We’ve always grown throughout the years and have always had our own sound. That’s what works for us and we don’t have to worry about anybody else.”
T-Boz downplayed rumors of a Left Eye hologram in a recent interview on HuffPost Live, though she said that it’s still an option.
