LA Opera Talk on “Billy Budd” at the Oxnard Public Library
The Oxnard Public Library is honored to host Mary Johnston, a Community Educator from LA Opera, who will give an introductory talk and multimedia presentation about the opera Billy Budd, a tale of innocence and betrayal on the high seas.
Herman Melville’s classic novella was not only made into a movie but also into an opera. Benjamin Britten composed the music while novelist E. M. Forster along with Eric Crozier wrote the libretto (text). The audience will hear samples of the music and learn background information about this seafaring masterpiece in which the ocean can be heard in nearly every bar.
This presentation is free and will take place on Saturday, February 22, at 3:00 p.m., at the main branch of the Oxnard Public Library in meeting room B. For further information, please call 385-7532.
