Newspaper Vendor Fatally Shot on Chicago’s Southwest Side
Terrence Graves was shot about 5:55 a.m. while standing at the corner of 99th and Halsted streets near a gas station in the city’s Washington Heights neighborhood, DNAinfo Chicago reports.
The man’s family told NBC Chicago that a gunman approached him and opened fire, firing between seven and 10 shots.
The man’s mother Teresa Graves told the Chicago Tribune her son “doesn’t mess with anyone” but added that she may have gotten into a recent conflict with a gang member. She wanted to know why her son, who has a young daughter of his own, became the city’s latest victim of gun violence.
Police say two black males were seen fleeing the scene after the shooting by witnesses but have released little other information, the Sun-Times reports. An investigation is ongoing.
