Oxnard High School Music & Band Director Fundi Legohn was recognized by California State University Channel Islands (CI) as the recipient of the 2014 African American Achievement Award – Arts & Entertainment Category for his outstanding historical and multicultural contributions to the field of arts and Entertainment. The formal awards ceremony was held on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at the Petit Salon on the CI campus.

The University’s Multi-Cultural Program hosts the African American Achievement Awards and honors CI campus and community members for their contributions and empowerment of the African American community within Ventura County and surrounding areas.

Legohn has been the Music and Band Director at Oxnard High School for 22 years and has received multiple honors and awards for his dedication to keep music education alive in the public school system and other programs in the community.  Oxnard High School Principal Eric Riegert stated: “Fundi Legohn is one of the cornerstones of the Oxnard High School and the OUHSD Music and Teaching communities.  He works tirelessly to be the very best he can be and his work ethic serves as an inspiration for his students and peers.   Mr. Legohn is the prototypical essence of a true educator. ‘Everything is for the kids, hold nothing back; Mr. Legohn is the best!!!”

“I am so honored and humbled to have been nominated for such a prestigious award.  Being a part of such an esteemed group of award winners is the best feeling!”  All of this year’s honorees are hardworking individuals who are very well-respected in their community.  I am proud to be among them”.

Congratulations Mr. Legohn!
