Society of St. Vincent de Paul to hold “Black and White” Dinner/Dance

The fourth annual  “black and white” dinner/dance to raise funds for the homeless will be held  on November 9, 2013 at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center. The funds from the event will be used to support the operations  of the winter shelter which serves the homeless in West Ventura County.

The Ventura District of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul will hold the dinner dance from 6:00 pm to 12:00 midnight on  November 9. The theme for the event is “giving a little warmth to the ones left in the cold.”

Formal black and white attire will be required.

Since 2001, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul has been operating the shelter during the winter months, alternating between the National Guard armories in Ventura and Oxnard.

The Society expects that this year’s  costs will run  about $305,000 to operate the shelter for four months.

The Society plans to open the shelter  on December 1, 2013, as it did last year.  If funds allow, the shelter will close on March 31, 2014.

Music for the dance will be provided by Juano and Friends, a local band in Ventura County, consisting of Juan Garcia and his friends.

Tickets are $50 each until October 31 and $60 after October 31.  Further information  about the shelter, the event and sponsorships, and purchase of tickets can be obtained by calling 805-509-4400 or online at

Sponsorships and donations are also welcome.  Packets for sponsorship can  be obtained by calling (805) 509-4400.
