Catch the excitement of street dance as these energetic performers blend varied styles from Brazil’s capoiera to New York’s break dance and multi-component forms of hip-hop. Find out what happens when today’s diverse dance styles meet classical music by 17th century composer Antonio Vivaldi.
“Breakin’ Backwards” takes the audience on a dance journey across the decades with a variety of dance styles and selections that includes Count Basie, Elvis Presley, The Temptations, Aerosmith to Michael Jackson, and more. The company has toured the US, Canada, and Europe, leaving audiences in awe of their acrobatic skills and artistry and entertained by their humor.
The history of the company dates back to 1996, as a self-taught street crew competing for recognition in the Houston areas. They quickly caught the attention of the artistic director for Fly Dance Company.
This is where they became the company’s principal dancers and helped turn Fly into a national and international touring sensation.
“There’s a piece for everyone in this show” says Soul Street co-founder Javier Garcia, describing Breakin’ Backwards,. “We’re dancing to the best music from each decade… from the Charleston all the way to hip hop.”
