Ventura County Fair Announces Agricultural Scholarship Contest
The Ventura County Fair is as educational as it is entertaining. The Fair presents demonstrations, exhibits, and forums for the public to learn about farming, livestock and agriculture. To further our educational mission, the Fair is hosting a new contest open to high school and college students who are currently enrolled at an accredited university, college or community college, and are residents of Ventura County.
Contestants will create a presentation (verbal; Power Point or other) lasting 5-7 minutes on “The Importance of Agriculture to the Ventura County economy, natural resource conservation and open space management”
Eligible applicants must submit an entry form online no later than Monday, July 28 at 5pm. The contest will take place on Friday, August 1 in the Agriculture and Natural Resources Building starting at 5pm. The contest will consist of a live presentation of 5-7 minutes to a panel of judges with representation from the Ventura County Resource Conservation District, FOOD Share and the agricultural industry. Parents, families and friends are encouraged to attend and support the contestants.
Entries will be judged on the overall content of the presentation (accuracy and level of detail), relevance and significance to the theme and presentation skills (use of visuals and delivery of information).
The contest, sponsored by Ventura County Resource Conservation District and FOODShare will award a First Place scholarship of $2,000 and a Second Place scholarship of $1,000.
