Oxnard— The ceremonial calendar during the Nov. 27, Oxnard City Council meeting was interrupted by jingle bells, as Mayor Tim Flynn told the kids of all ages in the audience that Santa Claus had flown in for a special visit and brought Mrs. Claus and some elves.

“Ho-ho-ho, Merry Christmas,” Claus exclaimed to the appreciative crowd.

Flynn welcomed Santa on behalf of the city council.

“I brought my helpers, and they are going to pass out candy canes to all the kids here today,” Santa said. “It’s chilly.”

Flynn asked if he had an extra lining under his suit and Claus admitted that he is eating heartily.

“We have some special events coming up, and on Friday, Nov. 30, we have the tree lighting ceremony at 5:30 p.m. at Plaza Park,” Santa said. “I hope all you guys can make it, and on Dec. 1, we have our Oxnard Christmas Parade. I hope all of you can come down and see all the wonderful community members show their floats and you guys are there showing your support.”

After the parade, Santa said Plaza Park would host the 11th Annual Tamale Festival.

“How many of you are excited for the Tamale Festival,” he asked.

Flynn asked Santa how many tamales he could eat.

“I’m going to say a dozen,” Santa exclaimed. “I want to remind the kids to look out for me. I am going to be touring the beautiful City of Oxnard from Dec. 17-22. Make sure you guys keep an eye out. I am going to be with the police and fire department.”
