Have you ever wondered how Oxnard spends the sales taxes revenues? Even though the city claims during voting cycles that taxes will go to services, parks, and perhaps streets or programs, where does it go?

According to Transparent California which captures salaries, OT, benefits, other costs, etc. for every employee in California local and state government, the following is for the City of Oxnard.

For city employee benefits: CY2022 approximately $34.6M; CY2023 approximately $39.1M which is a 13% increase over CY2022; and CY2024 approximately $42.9M which is a 9.7% increase over CY2023. These values are facts, and facts matter as we’ve been told many times.

These values are the city’s own data which are supplied to Transparent California. The CY2025 benefits are not yet available; however, assuming a nominal 10% increase over CY2024, that would be approximately $47.2M. Measure E sales tax revenue is about $50M annually. Poof! There goes the Measure E tax revenue. Thus, the Measure E tax revenue is actually paying for Oxnard city employee benefits - not parks, not streets, not elderly or children’s programs, etc. Is this what you expected when you voted yes for Measure E?
