Equitable Reporting?

Dear Editor,

I have read the VC Star article ‘Appellate court restores Oxnard treasurer’s duties’, August 11, 2024 issue. Why doesn’t this reporter give equal representation to both parties? Mr. Molina, the city’s elected city treasurer, has only one sentence in the article. His attorney was apparently not available for comment. The remainder of the article was from the city’s viewpoint.

Is this fair reporting?

And why bring up information not pertinent to the lawsuit? For example, the article states that an ‘outside firm investigated several complaints against Mr. Molina’ and ‘accused him of making inappropriate comments concerning female employees……………….. .’ However, what is not stated is that a prior investigation found no wrongdoing by Mr. Molina, and a repeated investigation was ordered by the city, hoping to get a different answer. It seems like a kangaroo court with no due process afforded to Mr. Molina. It seems the city does not like having an independent elected treasurer overseeing and protecting the public’s funds.

Also, the article states, according to Mr. Ken Rozell, Oxnard’s chief assistant city attorney, ‘The city’s actions retained the treasurer’s core statutory duties…………..’ How can this be? Wasn’t this the basis of the lawsuit? How can…
