Frosted Thoughts

Oxnard-- This may sound like a weird anniversary, but April 8 marks 35 years since I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. After 35 years, it’s not about the week I was diagnosed anymore; I’ve talked about that in the past when my Mother said I looked dead and threatened to tell my father unless I went to the Doctor.

IN 2023, managing Diabetes is extra work I’ve incorporated into my daily routine. Fortunately for me, there is technology available that makes managing Diabetes easier. Thank God for my continuous glucose monitor, which warns me when I go too low or high.

It’s not a happy happy ending, however, since highs and lows make me feel like I’ve been placed in a Zombie bubble. It takes a while to bounce back. That never gets any easier.

The long-term effects of Type 1 Diabetes take a toll on your body, as my kidneys aren’t what they were, which means no more salt and taking medication I would prefer not to take. As I said in the last paragraph, it doesn’t get easier.
