Frosted Thoughts

Oxnard--My typical week is busy, by definition, as I spend almost all my time running the Sentry, helping new reporters at my project, and trying to balance a potpourri of issues ranging all the way to dealing with the J-Train.

LET’S dial back to September 8, when I was looking at a ton of stories and getting people to cover the events. Meanwhile, things were happening that required me to interview people who were less than excited to hear from me.

That means calling, leaving messages, waiting, calling more people, and asking why no one is calling me back.

Since my project is working on a daily paper, my timelines are accelerated, and I have to be pretty aggressive, which nobody likes.

At about 3 p.m., I started feeling awful, worse than usual. I didn’t think much about it because I assumed my continuous glucose monitor would have alerted me if my blood sugar was off.

About 4 p.m. I started to feel nauseous, so I looked at my glucose app and found out the transmitter stopped working. I went to the car, got my old finger stick monitor, and, oh boy, my glucose was over 500 (100 is…
