Oxnard-- I know it takes a whole lot of people to make up the world we live in, but sometimes I have to encounter the worst of the worst, which is maddening.
TO explain, it’s Sunday evening, and I’m at home writing like usual, trying to stuff two weeks of news into a weekend. Then there is a knock at the door, and it’s one of my neighbors yelling at me because the landlord wants to do some parking lot maintenance, and the family cars are in the way.
For context, it’s about 8 p.m., the maintenance was unannounced, and I was told to move the cars in less than 20 minutes to some other location down the block. I started complaining, which is not new, and was told that if I kept yelling, my neighbor would file a complaint against me.
You know, in my world, I start with the words Hello, good evening, or I’m sorry to disturb you at such a late hour. I don’t bark directives at people. I respect people. Some people were raised to believe that making people do things is the ultimate power trip, which fuels ego and power they don’t understand.
