Frosted Thoughts

Oxnard--Sometimes, I have to reflect on what drives me. Most people who know me perceive me as kind of offbeat and goofy, which never bothers me. I am offbeat and goofy.

WHAT bothers me is when I get criticized for being honest and telling people what really happens in their government and community.

I did a story about a local school board member recently, not in Oxnard, but in my project location, and it was dramatically cut because they felt it was improper to paint the community in such a negative fashion. What makes matters worse is they won’t tell the public the details about this person’s shortcomings.

With that said, let me remind everyone that in the house I grew up in during the 1960s, if I lied, I paid the price severely and got my butt whipped. I’m pretty sure that’s negative reinforcement to change behavior.

I’m not saying I didn’t have my moments; I was a teenager in the 1970s and spent plenty of days misleading my parents about parties (keggers) where we would socialize, have a couple of beers, and then go home. Misleading old Mom and Pop was more of a self-preservation exercise.
