Frosted Thoughts

Oxnard—Despite the fact that my children are grown and living their lives, I continue parenting daily. It’s a little different, as my four-legged children are equally demanding.

I was asleep Saturday night and suddenly awakened by Daisy and Buddy crying and barking. Lots of fireworks were going off within earshot, and they were frightened.

They were scrambling around without rhyme or reason, and when I came into the living room, they sat at my feet and wouldn’t budge. I reassured them and told them it can’t hurt them. They wagged their tails and sat content and safe.

I decided a little fridge treat would be perfect, so I got them each a doggie ice cream cup, and they followed me back to bed.

That’s not the end of the story since they argued about who gets which treat. I repositioned each ice cream and told them to finish their own ice cream. I monitored the situation until Daisy and Buddy were finished.

Let’s look past this moment and dwell on the fact that fireworks are illegal in Oxnard and should also be illegal in Port Hueneme.
