I’m not sure what took me so long to realize that not all soy sauces are created equal.
Sometimes life is like that though. Some things are so ubiquitous that I don’t stop to think, “huh but is that the best one?” The soy sauces that you normally see in restaurants and in to-go orders are not 100% soy sauce.
THEY are also about half wheat sauce.
What? It is true. But don’t sweat, cuz there is 100% soy-based soy sauce out there, it is just called something different. Tamari. Tamari is 100% soy-based soy sauce and because of that it is also gluten-free. And thicker and more flavorful than the stuff we are used to. Tamari is as easy to find in the grocery store so keep your eye out for it.
All of that to say we are making ginger garlic shrimp tonight and I Tamari is the second star here, after the shrimp.
