Older People Rule

Oxnard—There are some weekends when the J-Train and I roll along without much fanfare. In other words, we’re boring.

WE had plenty to accomplish today, but that meant getting up without any fanfare and hitting the road. We had papers to deliver and stories to cover.

We spent the majority of our escapade today discussing our last trips to the doctor, which was not my favorite activity. We need to make some changes to our lifestyles, and we’re senior citizens, which means more corrective actions are needed to keep rolling along healthy.

The Paramedic and the Sarge refer to us as a pair of happy old raisins. You know, 25 years ago this week, we got married and started our lives together, and it’s been quite the journey.

I’ve discussed the story before; neither of us had a happy first marriage, and we hoped for a better second act.

Well, we’re a normal married couple—well, pretty normal. The J-Train is married to me, which everyone knows is challenging, but we’ve found our way through everything, one way or another.

We’ve stood together through it all and lear­ned from mistakes and successes. We had a com­fortable life and nice home…
