Oxnard-- My oldest, Travis, called me the other day to say hello, and I told him that I was out in the field delivering papers.
HE said, Dad, aren’t you getting a little old to be delivering newspapers? You should be home sitting in your chair, taking it easy, considering how old you are.
I reminded him that, while I am 63 years old, I’m not quite ready for sitting around the house complaining about everything and watching television.
However, he does have one point. When I was a child, I had relatives and friends who took in their senior family members at their homes and cared for them as they aged.
I told Travis that I would be fine with all this, and I told him that I would immediately stop delivering the paper and go home to pack and move into his house.
There is no doubt in my mind that Travis would love it if I were there in his house joining his poker games, asking him if he is getting old to be a 38-year-old man who plays magical role-playing games, and where are my grandkids to play with? I could also reminisce about things…
