Park Bench and Tree Donation Program Debated

Oxnard—After a little debate from Council Members Bert Perello and Aaron Starr, the Council approved its Park Bench and Tree Donation Program.

COUNCIL Member Bert Perello said they received a public comment on the tree donation program and that the last group of graduates at the old Oxnard High School site wants to donate a bench.

"I think it's a good idea, but I'd like to hear what the City Council thinks," he said. "What would be a negative to having a group listed?"

Public Works Director Michael Wolfe said it's a slippery slope when you talk about a group.

"There are a lot of good intentions out there, but now we have to make some discretionary decisions about what's a good group, and what's not such a good group," he said. "Those same conversations can happen with individuals, but the recommendation we have put forward is to try and take some of that discretionary process out, and not entertain applications that we don't agree with all the time."

As a Hueneme High Grad, he disagrees with Oxnard High School having a bench somewhere.
