Oxnard-- The story about the City of Oxnard receiving a drought update continues with Mayor John Zaragoza commenting that other cities report leaks within 48 hours of discovery.

Transportation Committee recommended to the full city council, Tuesday, October 26, that it create an ordinance amending the city’s four water shortage stages in their existing ordinance to six water shortage stages.
“I think the City of Oxnard has 72 or 78 hours,” he said about reporting leaks. “Why is that a difference there to report leaks? Maybe that’s something the staff can look at and report back for the city council.”
Council Member Vianey Lopez added to Zaragoza’s comment about leaks and noted the city did take action at the last committee and council meetings to approve the smart meters that will help the city find leaks.
“I think they are going to do tremendous work in addressing some of the issues that have gone unnoticed,” she said. “Not because of staff not doing their work but because of the system not being in place. I think all of those measures are going to put us in a better place.”
