Oxnard-- Well, we made it through August in one piece. The month was full of happy community events, sadness, the loss of Supervisor Carmen Ramirez too soon, and lots of music.
FIRSTLY, it will be sad to say goodbye to the Concerts by the Sea series in 2022. Give credit to the Channel Islands Harbor Foundation for making the season a joy. Even when they got a last-minute cancellation last week, Kelly’s Lot jumped in and made the night memorable.
In the bonus department was Harbor View Park, which turned out to be a great venue with lots of parking, shopping, and easier access. I wouldn’t mind it if this became the permanent location.
It’s great getting back to normal life, which means that I spent most of the month traveling from event to event and getting a sunburned scalp.
The 75th Anniversary of Oxnard Rec was a great time, as it reminded me of all the time I spent in Rec programs as a child. I was in Little League, Lacrosse, Wrestling, Basketball, and Golf. Later on, my sons got involved with Baseball, Wrestling, and especially Football. I learned teamwork, camaraderie, dedication, and being passionate about sports which…
