To the residents of Oxnard:

Neighbors, the 4th of July has come and gone. Although the use of fireworks within city limits, including those deemed safe and sane, have been declared illegal in Oxnard, many of you have already had your fun and violated this declaration on the evening of the 4th.

SOME of you couldn’t even wait for the 4th and started weeks prior. And now, it is near the end of July and some of you still continue to violate our peaceful nights with the illegal use of fireworks.

Since Oxnard law enforcement is unable to control this illegal activity, I thought I’d try this approach – a direct appeal to the public. Do you not have any respect for your neighbors? What pleasure do you derive from this continuous noise?

What about those veterans who have survived horrendous war-time conditions and have safely returned to us with the hope to spend the rest of their lives in peace and quiet? This war-like environment surely takes these folks back to some unpleasant times. What about those pets which, at the sound of fireworks, get so disturbed and/or frightened that they run from their homes and caretakers or need to be sedated?
