Brandon Ragan Project engages funky crowd

Channel Islands— Classic funk and blues mixed in with some jazzy hits electrified the Harbor on Saturday, July 20, as the Brandon Ragan Project engaged the crowd from the opening with songs like "Dirty Lowdown" by Boz Scaggs, which mobbed the dance area with concertgoers reveling in the music.

RAGAN left the stage during the show with his saxophone blazing while concertgoers danced around him, and at one point, he called people celebrating birthdays to the stage and sang Happy Birthday with the cheering crowd.

Cindy Arosteguy called herself a Brandon Ragan groupie and started following him about six months ago.

“He does all my songs,” Cindy said. “I like the Rolling Stones and Credence.”

Annie Landry said Ragan’s saxophone mastery is the biggest reason she’s such a fan.

“We live here right in the hood,” she said.

Astroguy said she brought her chair to Harborview Park at 8 a.m. and was ready to enjoy the show.

She’s been attending the Concerts by the Sea for over five years when they were rocking at Peninsula Park.

“I’m ready to groove and jam; all the songs are great,” Landry said.
