Car Wash Fundraiser helps David Lopez’s final expenses

Oxnard-- Family members, friends, and the community came together to help the family of David “Frog” Lopez Saturday, August 13, with a Carwash Fundraiser.

LOPEZ pas­sed away unexpec­tedly at age 52 Wednesday, July 27, and the money raised will help the family cover funeral expenses. The Salvation Army, which was assisting Lopez, stepped up and offered their location to help.

David’s niece Ashley Basquez was part of the effort and said he was a member of the unhoused community, and the Salvation Army was helping him transition into an apartment.

Ashley said David was an amazing guy, and after his passing, many people shared stories about him and how he had been so helpful. David may have been unhoused, but she noted that some people are unhoused because of the pandemic and the challenges faced over the last two years.

“David was so important because he was always a giver,” Ashley said. “David would give you the shirt right off his back. He wasn’t wealthy, but he had a heart of gold.
