Oxnard—The Public Works and Transportation Committee, on Tuesday, May 12, approved an agreement with Ojos Trucking School (AGT Trucking School) for Commercial Driver’s License Training.
WATER Division Manager Chris Peyton presented the agreement for Commercial Driver’s License Training, with an initial term of three years at $385,000, from June 2, 2026, until June 1, 2029, and an option for two consecutive one-year extensions ending June 1, 2031.
“To maintain a background of operational safety and service continuity, the Public Works Department requires Staff across multiple Divisions to obtain a valid California Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within the first two years of employment. A valid CDL is a mandatory requirement for certain roles, as daily operations, emergency response vehicles, and specialized field work necessitate the legal and safe operations of heavy commercial vehicles and specialized equipment.“
He said a Class A commercial driver’s license is required for certain positions, and the City has consistently received enough qualified applicants with a Class A License at the time of hire.
“To avoid extended vacancies and resulting staffing shortages, the City hires candidates with the condition they obtain a Class A License within a specified time, as a condition of employment,” he said.…
