Oxnard—The City Council, on Tuesday, April 7, will work with Staff on a survey and pair with option 2 in the Staff report for renaming Cesar Chavez Street, as asked for by Mayor Pro Tem Gabe Teran.
PLANNING Manager Joe Pearson and Community Development Director Jeff Pengilly presented the item, and Pearson said the street stretches between the City’s west and east village neighborhoods and is located within the Northeast Community Specific Plan.
“The original street was part of the annexation and development of an Oxnard School District Facility, currently, the elementary and West Village Park, and it provided access to the site from Rose Avenue,” Pearson said. “This original segment is located at a site of what is currently Gotfried Place and North Rose Avenue. The street segment was constructed somewhere between 1997 and 1998. Following the creation of the original segment, the street was further expanded with the development of the adjacent residential developments under the Northeast Community Specific Plan.”
Currently, he said, the street runs between Juanita Avenue and Gibraltar Street for a total distance of 0.9 miles, and over that distance, there are approximately 39 residences that directly front onto Cesar Chavez Street, as well…
