City County Cleanup Successful

Oxnard—During his Tuesday, October 6, report to the City Council, City Manager Alex Nguyen reported on the homeless cleanup, which the County and its partners supported.

“WITH the McWayne Encampment Cleanup, the picture does say 1,000 words,” he said. “On the left, it shows what it was before; the center shows an aerial view, and a lot of work went into the effort preceding last week. Many of our various partners provided a lot of outreach beforehand.”

He said it required lots of planning, and much hard work went into the effort.

“One of the partners was the Staff from the Public Works Department,” he said. “We had great leaders from the City, especially from the Police Department, who helped get everything organized and coordinated. There were lots of moving parts, and very complicated, specifically some of the families who have minor children. Some of the RVs were not operable.”

He said, unfortunately, there are no State grants for encampment cleanup, so the City has to eat the cost.

“This is far from a perfect solution,” he said. “There is a need for the adjacent businesses there, and I want to thank the Chamber of Commerce for helping us…
