Committee approves Pirate Staffing agreement

Oxnard--The Public Works & Transportation Committee, Tuesday, April 12, approved agreement A-8444 with Pirate California Holdings, dba Pirate Staffing .

CITY of Oxnard Environmental Resources Division Manager Todd Vasquez-Housley presented the item, and he said the contract does not exceed $800,000 for three years for temporary and supplemental labor services at the Del Norte Regional Recycling Plant.

The environmental resources division (ER) is responsible for the city’s solid waste, recyclable, and organic material collection and the operation of the Del Norte Regional Recycling and Transfer Station.

Del Norte processes over 275,000 tons of solid waste, recyclable and organic material each year from Oxnard and the Western Region of Ventura County.

“ER operations rely on a workforce of over 180 employees in 25 job classifications to successfully perform the tasks required of a full-service solid waste utility,” he said.

The job classifications of sorter, maintenance worker trainee, and office assistant 1-2, he said, have an unusually high turnover rate and recruitment is often ongoing.
