Oxnard—The Finance and Governance Committee, on Tuesday, September 8, heard a report about whether the Committee should continue and decided to table the item because Council Member Gabriela Rodriguez could not attend. She was absent.
COUNCIL Member Aaron Starr asked for the report and cited its expense for things like security services at the meetings, agreed to wait, and said it's a big decision.
Assistant City Manager Eric Sonstegard presented the report and said Staff should discuss its structure, any alternatives, and then give direction.
“In November 2018, the City of Oxnard transitioned from a Mayor and four at-large Council Members to a Mayor at-large and six district Council Members,” he said. “To process the high amount of business volume without rushing or glossing over important items, the Council created standing committees in November 2018, and they occurred during the day and evening hours on alternate Tuesdays.”
In November 2020, he said Measure M passed and capped meeting start times, so no City Governing meeting can start before 6 p.m. on those days.
